FAQ about Homeschooling
Q:  Is it legal to homeschool in Michigan?
A:  Yes!  
According to
HSLDA,  "A child is not required to attend a public school if the child is being educated at the child’s home by his or her parent or legal guardian in an organized educational program in the subject areas of reading, spelling, mathematics, science, history, civics, literature, writing, and English grammar. There are no requirements to notify, seek approval, test, file forms, or have any certain teacher qualifications. "  Michigan is one of the easiest states to homeschool in!

Q:  Will my child be socialized?
A:  YES! 
Homeschooling doesn't mean never leaving the house.  Your child/children will be with you when you are out running errands.  There are support groups that offer classes and open play that allow for plenty of "socialization".  There are groups for all sorts of interests from sports to theater. 

Q:  How do I start?
A:  Right here! 
First, find a support group that fits you.  If the first one you try doesn't fit, try another.  I feel it is important that you feel comfortable as you will be making new friends too.  Check out the Links section of this site.

Second, decide if you will use a curriculum or just go with the flow of things.  There are as many ways to homeschool as there are homeschoolers.  This page gives a great breakdown of methods. 

It is important to find what works for you and your family.  Homeschooling is a lifestyle.  If you try something and it isn't working don't be afraid to take a different course, try a different method.  It is important to find what works for you and your children.  That means mom and dad don't need to be stressed!
